Chelsea needs a response after losing to Manchester City and Juventus. They were disappointing in both games, creating little, and Thomas Tuchel could make changes. Tuchel will hope Mason Mount, sorely missed in Chelsea’s past two games, is available as the manager wants his attack to offer more against opponents who are yet to win in the league. However, Chelsea has failed to win their past three games against Southampton and Ralph Hasenhüttl’s team has already taken points off City and Manchester United. Southampton can be awkward and they will be hoping their young right-back, Tino Livramento can steal the show against his former team. Date: Saturday, October 2, 2021, Time: 12.30pm BT
Venue: Old Trafford
Thomas Tuchel has never lost three games in a row as Blues boss and will hope to put the Saints to the sword to help overcome any lingering sadness from the losses to Manchester City and Juventus.
The German coach is able to welcome back Mason Mount to his ranks but is still without N’Golo Kante, Reece James and Christian Pulisic for the clash. With the Blues struggles to link play to Romelu Lukaku in the last week, he will have a big decision to make on Mount’s return.
Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante continues to self-isolate following a positive Covid-19 test, while Christian Pulisic is expected to again miss out.
Mason Mount is fit but Reece James has been ruled out because of an ankle problem.
Southampton will assess Stuart Armstrong, who has resumed training following a calf injury, while Theo Walcott is fit after a similar issue. Loanee Armando Broja is ineligible to face his parent club.
