Auburn vs Georgia

Venue: Jordan-Hare Stadium, Auburn, AL
Georgia (5-0) continues to dominate with a defense that ranks first in the FBS in total yards (177.8) and points per game (4.6). Quarterback JT Daniels has missed two games with an oblique injury, and if he can’t go Stetson Bennett will be pressed into action again.
Auburn (4-1, 1-0) and Georgia (5-0, 3-0) will kick off at 2:30 p.m. CT on Saturday from Jordan-Hare Stadium. The game will be televised on CBS with Noah Eagle, Rick Neuheisel, Aaron Murray and Jenny Dell on the call. You can also listen to Andy Burcham, Stan White and Ronnie Brown who will have the radio call on 93.9 Tiger FM and online at AuburnTigers.com.
Georgia leads the series 61-56-8, but lately, it hasn’t felt like much of a rivalry. Auburn’s still Auburn, so Georgia fans always have a slight concern in the back of their heads on game day.
The dedication that Auburn and Georgia have to their annual football game is apparent. Since 1898, the teams played each other every year except for 1917, 1918 and 1943. Those years align with the first and second world wars.
Georgia led 30-28 with 3:25 remaining in a game that saw eight lead changes. Facing 4th-and-10, Auburn quarterback Brandon Cox hit wide receiver Devon Aromashodu with a 62-yard pass that set up a game-winning field goal by John Vaughn with six seconds remaining. Tigers coach Tommy Tuberville said the game “will go down as a classic.”

But then I came back to the belief that the Auburn defense just held Georgia and Alabama to an average of 15.5 points. It still has the pass-rushers and the run-stopping defensive line that gave the Dawgs fits a few short weeks ago.
I can’t see the Georgia offense imposing its will on Auburn and racking up 250 yards on the ground. I think both defenses do the heavy lifting in this one, but Auburn pulls out a thriller … with or without Johnson. Auburn 17, Georgia 14.
This year’s rendition of UGA vs. AU should be a good one. The Georgia – Auburn game is a showdown between two nationally ranked programs. Georgia begins the season ranked 5th by the AP while Auburn is ranked 10th.
Georgia and head coach Kirby Smart will look to slow down the Auburn offense, while Gus Malzahn and the Tigers defense will look to thwart the Georgia attack. Kirby Smart has been the head coach at Georgia since 2016 while Auburn has had Gus Malzahn steering the ship since 2013.
JT Daniels is still trying to get healthy and is questionable to get back in the mix this week. Bennett is a decent veteran who was fine against Vanderbilt and completed 7-of-11 passes against Arkansas, but there weren’t any stressful plays needing to be made.
